RFID Package Scanners make shipping more efficient

smartbox.jpg

German scientists have developed the IFF Smart Box, a shipping container which contains an RFID scanner and a GPS unit. This will allow for package tracking anywhere along it’s route, and shipping workers along the way can also easily determine where the package is going, where it’s been, and what’s inside of it. Better package tracking will result in more efficient package transportation, and better security at borders due to the RFID scanner displaying the contents of the package. A small onboard computer also collects sensor data to measure parameters such as pressure, temperature or vibration. This is transmitted to a central database, allowing customers to track their packages location, but also the current condition.
