A new project in a southern Indian city is installing solar powered street lights and traffic lights, to reduce energy costs for the city. The project includes 25 street lights, 20 street light control systems, five traffic signals, 10 cats’ eyes and 50 road studs. The project is expected to cost $14.8 Million dollars, and D. Chandrasekaran, commissioner of the Tirunelveli Corporation has also said “Based on the success of the program, it will be extended to other parts (of the city)”.

This technology could easily be used with the GSM light control systems I wrote about earlier.
